Hello there,
I had previously seen this feature was not supported, but I was curious if it was possible to access the color attribute of an imported mesh (for example an Alembic file output from Houdini) within Octane? I'd like to use this for coloring fluid meshes more easily, as baking a texture sequence for an entire alembic file seems like the wrong approach.
Thanks so much!
Ian

HI ianvalentine,
Vertex color is not supported, I do not think there is any other way than a baking at this time.
I will ask developers if it is possible to implement the 3dsMax vertex color with Octane.

Ahh, very good to know. It would be really excellent to have access to this data as a texture source within a material or something along those lines. Thanks so much for checking with them, let me know if you hear anything!paride4331 wrote:HI ianvalentine,

The post here viewtopic.php?f=27&t=63076 has started covering much of this too.
This would be extremely useful for us too. I often have very high polygon meshes generated from point clouds which are very time consuming to UVUnwrap/Bake. Being able to render the vertex colour on the mesh would be great but so far I have not been able to uncover a way to achieve this.
