Hi guys,
First I'd like to greet you for this amazing technology.
I downloaded the demo version, played with it a few hours, then tried to import my own mesh.
Unfortunately, the version of Octane I tried tends to crash each time I try to import an .obj file.
Here are the steps :
1/ Import my mesh from 3DMax 2010 (Win32) with the builtin obj exporter
2/ Start Octane Version 1.022 beta 2.2
3/ Click on "Add > Objects > Mesh" then select the .obj file previously imported
At this point, it just crash... I tried several export settings ("to maya", "to blender", "to zbrush", with triangles only, with ou without mesh optimization) with always the same unlucky result.
I'm using a PC with Windows Vista 64, 4 gigs of Ram, and a GF 8800 GTX
I uploaded the file, just in case you might want to reproduce this issue.
OBJ file from 3DSMax to crash Octane on import

I just tried your file and didn't have any trouble
what platform are you running on ?
Also please make sure the path to you obj doesn't contains language specific caracters like é,ü,à etc.. octane doesn't like that too much yet.

2/ Checked the obj & mtl file, and they don't contain any UNICODE or specific file. I know OBJ is not exactly normalized from one app to another, but feel free to make some tests with the files I included, as the compatibility with 3DSMax should be one of your concerns (I guess
Thx for answering quickly anyway.
Hi,
3ds max works fine with octane and we have plugins (currently for licensed customers) that make exporting much easier.
anyways, the files you posted render fine here.
maybe you place them in a directory with non utf-8 characters.
