Hi all,

We weren't planning to make another 2021.1 release build since several users have been asking how to deal with the introduction of the Studio+ license if they would like to finish some project in version 2021.1 but with the features of the Enterprise / Studio+ license, we figured we should make a 2021.1.7 release that allows you to do that. This build also contains a couple of bug fixes, but those were not the reason for the release.

You can find an overview of all new features and improvements of version 2021.1 here.

This version supports all current NVIDIA GPUs with compute model 3.5 or higher. Please make sure to use a NVIDIA Studio driver with version at least 456.38 on Windows or 455.23 on Linux.


Changes since OctaneRender 2021.1.6:

  • Fixed a render failure that can happen when you quickly switch between different render targets with a baking camera.
  • Fixed render failure when adding a normal texture to an environment texture.
  • Fixed uncaught exceptions from OpenVDB, which fixes hang when importing certain VDB files.
  • Fixed very slow ray-tracing through some levelset VDBs that are loaded as volume SDF and might result in a kernel timeout.
  • Fixed network rendering of volume SDFs.
  • Fixed corrupt images when multiple GPUs are compositing different output AOVs at the same time.

Last week we were trying to figure out how we were going to handle this on various current projects. Now we have more flexibility if we run into problems.

How do we finish a project from 2020.2.5?
Before Black Friday we had no 2GPU limit on the main machine, and 10 render nodes, having an Enterprise+ license prior to Black Friday.
Now, we are told we have to install the studio installer, not the enterprise installer.

But the 2020.2.5 studio installer has a 2 GPU limit - which is not what we just paid for.
And it won't run nodes. Which is not what we just paid for.

Support doesn't seem to understand our problem. Other posts in the forums completely skip over the very clearly written "2020.2.5" and say "hey install this new new 2021.7 version wow". Not gonna work. We need to complete projects using the version we were running, with the capabilities we had. We paid for that. But it's not working?

Need a solution ASAP.
Seems easiest would be for you to flip a byte or add something into your login system that says current studio subscription usernames and passwords will work in older Enterprise installers and nodes. Boom, done. But I'm not getting anywhere with answers to this issue yet.

Can someone please get back to me, on what we're supposed to do now?

Hi northalex78,

The Studio+ version has a 40 GPU limit and support for network rendering so you should be able to use it the same as you used to use the Enterprise version in the past. Please note that Studio and Studio+ are two different versions and while the former does have the limitations you mentioned the latter does not. There is currently Studio+ version for 2021 and 2022 versions of Octane, however the 2020 version has not been updated so you will need to use the Enterprise version instead.

Sorry I had to find more info about your specific account.

If you have recently switched your Enterprise license to a Studio+ license you will need to use one of the versions that have been updated to Studio+ since older builds are no longer maintained. Studio+ licenses do not work with older enterprise builds by design, apologies if this wasn't clear enough when you obtained your new license.

We have asked the support team to follow up with you to check if we can find a solution to your specific case.
