Could you share a .blend file?
I created the same shader and it does not work. I'm not sure if it is a bug in Octane X or I missed something.

I found OSL examples only C4D or standalone. Can't get it working in Blender.

As a temporary solution I use additional 1440p monitor just for Octane X realtime view window (Blender).
A tip for 4K/5K/Retina displays - try use:
- native resolution external resolution ('More Spaces' monitor settings)
- switch to full MacBook resolution e.g. with EasyRes app
