Re: GPU performance

Hmm yeah, I see your point... When the GPU is rendering the PC starts to act like a P1 400Mhz :P

I'll probably need another card in the future, but then I might look for a basic Quadro solution!

If you have the chance, make some tests with the GTX 470 on display, or even with the GTX 260 just to ...

Re: GPU performance

@kubo

Alright.. I guess this driver is not so good for the Fermis, but if you have the chance, just test it! I thought you were using the GTX 470 for display, as it should be more powerful than the GTX 260..

Hope I can make some tests in a few weeks and post here!! And I hope they have good ...

Re: GPU performance

aaah, you mean the "View Cube" ? I like it :P

It's nice for reaching some views that do not have keyboard shortcuts...

I know the "The Area" forum.. I have an account there too.. I'll look for those optimizations when I finally get my new computer!

If you get the chance any day soon try making ...

Re: GPU performance

I'm afraid I can't test those scenes at the moment, but yes there is quite some optimizations on max, but in the 2011 and 2010 versions, if you get rid of ribbon and of that annoying floating camera gizmo you'll get quite an improvement, there is some other things you can deactivate, check the area ...

Re: GPU performance

I think there is two huge differences between both test, first screen resolution, but more important max version, 2010 and 2011 in my experience are gpu hungry, and not that well optimized, 2009 runs much more smoothly on default install.

The driver might be doing some difference too.. I'll talk ...

Re: GPU performance

I did the test and it's making in for 19.7 seconds. I saw the other peoples performance and I must say that they do must fix they'r drivers.

PS: it's max 2009, and 1680x1050, viewport it's on expert mode, mean full maximized no menus and it's all like in the test smooth+Highlights+Edged Faces ...

Re: GPU performance

as said the best setup for max users is to get a cheap quadro for modeling (and use it's DCC oriented drivers), and a 2nd card, a GTX480, headless for octane rendering.

Radiance

Yeah, I thought about that too..

But the Quadro FX1800 seems to be a little weak, compared to the FirePro V5800.. It ...

Re: GPU performance

Hi,

Sorry but i don't have a copy of max or maya in the european office at this time, so i can't do any tests.
In NZ we have Max, but we don't have any GTX400 cards...
Maybe in the near future.

One thing is that indeed the geforce drivers are 'handicapped' for DCG applications by nvidia at the ...

Re: GPU performance

Hey, we have many cards here in our office and i need to update my sig ;)
my main office machine has 2x GTX480.
One GTX480 is about as fast as 4 of those older quadro FX3800's in octane render.

The only difference between quadro and geforce is drivers and max/maya are supported much better by the ...

Re: GPU performance

I'm leaning for the GTX 480, I guess in terms of Price X Performance, the GTX 480 is a big winner.

Radiance:
If you always choose Geforces over Quadros, why do you have 3 Quadro FX 3800 ? They perform much better than the Geforces you have?

I saw many people complaining about the performance of ...
