Hi, thank you for investigating, this feature would be highly desirable.

Could this please be added as a feature request? I imagine that many users of Octane would jump at any opportunity to lower VRAM usage.

When using point or vertex float or vector attributes, is it possible to modify the bit depth to 16bit, or lower?

If I manually quantize attributes to 16bit in SOPs, the memory footprint is reduced.

Hello, thank you both for your response, Normal smoothing unfortunately does not help.

Normal smoothing was on in the render in the original test.

Please see the following comparisons: normalSmoothingOff.png and normalSmoothingOn.png

woo! got it working!

Vertex Attributes literally means Vertex attributes! Not point or prim atts. Simple attrib promotes in sops to Vertex atts and all is working.

Could we please get an example file or further documentation on hair attributes for octane in Houdini?

I cannot get point or prim attributes to render with the float and vector vertex attribute nodes.

It seems like PR14 only supports up to Houdini 19.0

But there is a intel version for 19.5.569, that one could run on mac silicon, even though there is also a dedicated mac silicon version as well ...
