The whole network licensing thing makes it really hard to actually use network rendering. To buy a whole standalone license always feels like wasting money. Not being able to sell the licenses when you don't need them anymore makes it even more bitter. I actually didn't use network rendering so far ...

Yeah it should be possible. It's def possible to convert procedurals to raw pixel data internally in maya. As far as i know octane is capable to use pixel data like this for some time now.

this is so awesome, dude. I always wondered if this whole eGpu thing would be doable over daisy chaining too.

Yes, thats very great news!
The last time I checked it wasn't possible due to OSX Driver restrictions (only possible via Driver hacks). But It makes sense, because the new Mac Pro would't be upgradable via Thunderbolt otherwise. Now I can finally start to rethink the whole eGpu OSX think.
