I tried to play with camera settings, and it make some result. But, anyway, it looks like you know what.
range of numbers - gigantic, i have no idea how to make standart camera settings. And what`s wrong with light?
? Plus - please remove this number range, make it smaller. it is inconvenient for work with it, you want to set to 100, but you are setting 1000. Like this. (
ps - you can set "100" with shift pressed, but only in channel box, not attrib editor)

You can pick the exact focus by selecting the region in the RenderView during IPR (the current camera focus will be set to the center of this region).

Would it be possible to install the plugin in a central server location?

Meaning, copying the .mll file into MAYA_PLUG_IN_PATH, defining where Maya can find other files such as the octane.dll, octane.dat and octaneRenderer.xml and lastly uninstall the local copy of Octane.

I have not understood your goal... Installing it on the server first, then copy somewhere else, and then uninstall from server...:?
What is your task? Why you need it?..

Set the scale to 1.0 in the Octane settings.

No I meant install locally first, then copy the files onto an arbitrary location (a server) and then uninstall the local installation. Finally run Maya and load the Octane plug-in from the arbitrary location.

We have our studio set up like this for all software that supports it. This helps when maintaining a large number of machines and when switching back and forth between versions.

For example, here's how to install V-Ray like this:
