A quick update.

I have a sizeable update finished and ready for release. This new release includes:

- Fixed issue when "Convert all Materials to Octane Materials" where the new Octane materials where not picking up the original Rhino material colors/attributes
- Added conversion of layer materials to Octane layer materials when doing "Convert all Materials to Octane Materials"
- Added "Warn If Texturemaps Not Found" option in the configuration. Disable if the constant warnings are annoying you.
- Added material preview bitmap generation in the Material panel. Generation of the bitmap occurs in a separate thread to the GUI, so shouldn't slow things down.
- The groundplane material is now picked up and rendered with the correct material (and you can material pick it if an Octane material has been assigned to the ground plane).
- Loading a material from the LiveDb now correctly refreshes the material preview in the Rhino viewport
- Added smart conversion of Octane material to Rhino materials for the Rhino viewport preview. The FIRST diffuse map found anywhere under the "diffuse" pin will now be used as the diffuse map. Material mix now supported too - material1 is used for the preview. Specular materials also supported.
- Fixed issue where sometimes an error dialog would get hidden behind the main Rhino window and could not be closed, which impacted loading liveDb materials whilst the viewport is open.

However, the above changes require the next Rhino SR candidate - which is not publicly available yet. Once it is available, I will post the update. Hopefully will be shortly.

I have updated the installers at the top of this thread with:

1.20.1.27
- Fixed issue when "Convert all Materials to Octane Materials" where the new Octane materials where not picking up the original Rhino material colors/attributes
- Added conversion of layer materials to Octane layer materials when doing "Convert all Materials to Octane Materials"
- Added "Warn If Texturemaps Not Found" option in the configuration. Disable if the constant warnings are annoying you.

- Fixed issue where sometimes an error dialog would get hidden behind the main Rhino window and could not be closed, which impacted loading liveDb materials whilst the viewport is open.
- When converting Rhino materials to Octane materials, the Rhino "glossiness" translates to the "specular" amount, and "reflectivity" translates to the "index"
- You can now rightclick a non-Octane material and change the type to an Octane material and the material attributes will be copied to the new Octane material

This release requires the latest Rhino Service Release Candidate (Rhino build 31207).

Hi Paul,

I'm eager to install the latest update but I'm in the middle of a project -- I wanted to confirm with you first that materials and settings will not be lost for existing files created with version 1.20.1.24. Will the materials and settings from 1.20.1.24 stay if I update to 1.20.1.28 ? If not, I will wait until my project is over. Please advise. Thanks.

You shouldn't loose any of your materials. 1.20.1.24 uses the new material integration system, and 1.20.1.28 just provides bug fixes. As a rule, tack the plugin version number to the end of your Rhino save filename, so if something unexpected happens, you can revert the plugin and rhino file version.

At this stage there have only been 2 reported issues with 1.20.1.28. 1) Texturemap references being lost when converting from glossy to diffuse (which I cannot reproduce), and 2) The "Convert all Materials to Octane Materials" re-converting overwriting Octane materials (which I also cannot reproduce).

I also have a build of the plugin against 1.21. However the LiveDb is not operational, so I will wait until this is back up and running before posting this version.

Paul,

Just wanted to let you know that I've been using 1.20.1.28 for several days now and have not run into any bugs. It's working beautifully. :D

Good to hear.

I have a build of the plugin compiled against Octane 1.23. It offers some more options for projection mapping and mapping transforms which I think you will like. I can provide an early test release if you are game - but I understand users working with the plugin on critical projects need 100% robustness, so will not want to try such a version.

Also, if you try to save an Octane material as RMTL with the current version, Rhino pops an error. This is a Rhino glitch and is fixed in Rhino5 SR8 (not available yet).

And also, if you open the Viewport and you are missing a texturemap, the popup warning is locking Rhino, so the next release removes the warning (when opening the Viewport). Octane 1.23 has a very good log system, which will display missing texturemaps as a Cuda type warning.

Sorry for the late response, been out of town for the Holidays. This all sounds great. I'll hold off for know on testing the latest, because, as you mentioned, I need the stability with my projects right now. I'm looking forward to January though, with the latest official test release!

This thread (and the download links) have changed to reflect the plugin is now out of beta. This is now the STABLE release thread.
