I geuss I need to find a really good poser tutorial series :)

Been there my friend.... I have a HDD dedicated to Poser and Daz files... I created folders for V4 clothes hair even sub catagories of each... I then extract and install to each individual directory and load them in poser... works best for me :)

Yeah I missed the boat on that...I've been using the same runtime since Poser 4. It's about 40 GB now. It's aggravating at times I know. Search is my best friend. One of these days I'll break down and organize better...in the meantime, it just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Very messy.

*I was wrong. So very, VERY wrong. My runtime is 101 GB!!! Clogged with everything from posette/dork, mayadoll, Irina, and tons of other now forgotten characters, and well just alot of plain junk. But I still have it! Maybe I'll start a Poser museum. :D

A while back I experimented with organising things, and finally setting on a Runtime for each figure type. So I have a V4 runtime, with all V4 textures, props, etc. Then a separate runtime from Genesis, etc. A pain to setup and maintain - but it installing from .ZIP runtimes, it's easy to install a product into the correct runtime.

Just a quick question from the Poser-SSS-front.
In an earlier post Witpapier mentioned that he added bump maps to the speculars.

The question that I have now though is: In what aspects differentiates the commercial Version from the one he posted 2 days ago (Mk2)?
Are there significant differences in terms of qualiy ?

If anyone could help me out, I'd be grateful - thanks in advance.

Hey there TRRazor. In the beginning I created the redspec skin which was a basic sss material with good glosiness and sss effect. There was an issue with the setup of strong light comming through the body when lit from behind. I then created the red X materials which uses a diffuse and glossy node setup with transparency maps... the result was a more realistic sss there where it would be visible in real life.... the texture colour was also less hindered by the sss effect... these ones I shared .... I then spent more time and effort to make the skin more realistic looking. As can be seen on my deviant page "redanta" and so the tgx skin was born... it is a complex skin with a lot of customizing features.... the skins Ive shared again is just revamped versions of the older ones... also With the tgx package I have created many presets aswel to save you the trouble... but on my deviant page you would be able to see the results... :)

Thanks, Witpapier, for the info.
Will check the Deviantart-page for a heads up.

One thing which I found out while experimenting with different SSS setups is that the rendered output really depends on the texture set you use. It may look really good with one set and then when you apply the same settings to another set it is totally off.
Also your light settings (intensity and color) do very much influence the final output.
I find my self tinkering with the settings again and again with every new figure and scene.

I start to believe that there is no magical SSS shader which works all the time with all the textures

Having said that, the redspec sets are a good starting point for tinkering with the shader
And I have to get that commercial set and see if that will improve it

And to respond to the large runtimes. My main one is 750GB (2.4M files) - I have been a Poser user since the late nineties and it builds up. About 10 years ago I started organizing with subfolders and stuck with it. But even then it got a bit chaotic after a while. Now I keep doing the same thing but use PzDB to find things. It is a db engine for poser content with all the keywords you want and you can find things within a few seconds.

You win hands down! PzDB huh? I'll have to look into that.
