Thx!
just read the manual, there's a workflow in it. you export, finetune mats/lights in octane, save the OCS, then you rerender with new linked geometry, keeping the materials/lighting in the OCS intact.
Not sure if I should post this here but here it goes..
When I press the render button to render a still it launches Octane which then freezes. (26% cpu usage on 8 cores) The red cube is black instead of red.
This happens every time I start with something new. The second time (when the .ocs file already exists) it works fine.
Also is there any logic to what sort of material I get in Octane? I have 2 Blinn's (identical except for the diffuse color) and one becomes a diffuse material and the other one a glossy material.
When I load the same obj in octane using Add>Objects>Mesh both materials become diffuse.

Did a bit of testing and found out it only happens if I have found that it does work if I don't have more than one material assigned.
To make things more interesting..
I'm starting octane and load the obj with Bazuka's mel script.
Unless stated otherwise I'm deleting the .obj, .mtl and .ocs file before each test.
4 objects all using the same shader : works
2 objects shader A and 2 objects using shader B : freeze
2 objects shader A and 2 objects using shader B without deleting files : works
1 object shader A, 1 objects using shader B, 1 object shader C and 1 objects using shader D : freeze
1 object shader A, 1 objects using shader B, 1 object shader C and 1 objects using shader D without deleting files : works
Concluding: it does work the second time I press the render button using the same scene file.
This would be anoying but I could work around it. However.. It get's more complicated.
Whenever I have a working version in Octane, (2nd try with the same scene) and I want to add more shaders I can add 1 without deleting the files and it will still work. When I add another shader it freezes.
At this point trying again without deleting the files doesn't help anymore. Only way I found to get it working again was to delete the files which starts a new cycle. The first time I launch after deleting the files it will still freeze but when I try a second time without deleting the files it works again.
Hadn't noticed before but when I try without the script (Add>Objects>Mesh) Octane also freezes on this same file. When I open the .ocs instead it works. This leads me to believe it's not a fault in the script but a bug in octane.
Strange thing is I've also had more complex obj's that work fine.

works okay for me but I still can't use Maya while it renders. I remember Tim from Autodesk suggesting I try some sort of "release" command for scripts that had this problem with 2011. Do you know of something like that you can execute as a final command so Maya is usable? I think this is only a problem with the Mac 2011 version right now (and maybe Linux).
