When rendering animation and having 'rebuild scene.." not on.. it does load the scene anyway for every frame?!
Hi Jeroen. "Rebuild Scene" should not effect rendering animations - it only effects if the scene is reloaded when you change the currently selected AC view. If you have the Viewport port (or have closed the Viewport but left the Setup window open), rendering to the Photorenderer will pick up the scene currently loaded in the video card - so will not load the animated geometry. Close the Setup window prior to do a Photorender to cause the scene to be reloaded.

Does that answer your question?

Paul
Hi Paul,

Finally I got it now.
It was still little confusing to me, because whatever settings the popup window says
"Loading the scene every into Octane".

I did this test with different settings to make sure what settings work best.
The scene I used is with an with animated car
and I rendered it (2000x1000 px, 400samples/pixel) a lot of frames to see how many frames it would render per minute to compare.

I set 'rebuild' on (tests 1-3) to see when car animates
"Loading the scene every into Octane" takes about 3-4 seconds

I set 'rebuild' off (tests 4-6) to compare rendertimes
"Loading the scene every into Octane" takes about 1-2 seconds

Conclusions/assumptions:
- So the scene is always loading, but probably not the geometry when having rebuild 'off', right?
- To animated objects... both, OctaneRender Setup Window and Viewport have to be closed
- to have fastest rendertime for animation without animated object can better be open

Belowe are my tests
Cheers,

TEST 1 (Rebuild: on)
---------------------------
OctaneRender Setup Window: on
OctaneRender Viewport: on
Rendering time frames per minute: 10

TEST 2 (Rebuild: on)
---------------------------
OctaneRender Setup Window: on
OctaneRender Viewport: off (after opened first)
Rendering time frames per minute: 9

TEST 3 (Rebuild: on) - only one works correct for object animation!
---------------------------
OctaneRender Setup Window: off
OctaneRender Viewport: off
Rendering time frames per minute: 6

TEST 4 Rebuild: off
---------------------------
OctaneRender Setup Window: on
OctaneRender Viewport: on
Rendering time frames per minute: 9

TEST 5 Rebuild: off
---------------------------
OctaneRender Setup Window: on
OctaneRender Viewport: off (after opened first)
Rendering time frames per minute: 8

TEST 6 Rebuild: off
---------------------------
OctaneRender Setup Window: off
OctaneRender Viewport: off
Rendering time frames per minute: 5

Hi Jeroen

One day I will work out how to make this easier to understand. But unfortunately an ArchiCAD plugin cannot talk in any way to an ArchiCAD Renderer - so the Octane plugin Setup window cannot talk to the Octane Photorenderer - so the current slightly confusing implementation is what we get. I was thinking maybe a text box on the Setup window Render tab of the plugin to say "Rendertarget Not Loaded - Photorenderer will load the entire scene" OR "Rendertarget Loaded - Photorenderer will use the scene currently loaded in the graphics card". But maybe that confuses people more :-)
So the scene is always loading, but probably not the geometry when having rebuild 'off', right?
The "rebuild" setting will only have an effect if the "Photorenderer Settings" Octane View is different from the current AC selected View
To animated objects... both, OctaneRender Setup Window and Viewport have to be closed
Correct
to have fastest rendertime for animation without animated object can better be open
Correct
