I imagine the reason I didn't see a performance gain from disabling hyperthreading is even at one core, maybe I was already at the max bandwidth my ddr memory could write??? So maybe that is something I will upgrade in the future.

On a side note, Make sure the button called "update animation geometry" is unchecked in the octane render settings tab if your not animating geometry and only moving the camera. I'm guessing that is to literally update geometry that is animated and changing frame by frame? Unchecking this will only process the geometry once regardless of how many frame you render.

Other than that, the best performance gain you could get anywhere is with a program called EVGA's "precision X". This allows you to not really overclock, but to boost your GPU to new heights safely. I know I boosted the performance of my GTX670 FTW by almost 20%. I went further and setup a custom fan speed curve not allowing my GPU to go over 68 degrees celcius, as 70 is the point at which these cards will actually decrease the performance "As Needed" to cool it self down slowing your render big time...... Custom Fan Curves play a big part in the race to render fast as well.

I hope this can help someone in the future.
