I have been playing around with the Octane hair shader UV projections
mostly the spherical one
and making my cat have a spherical UV too
after finding a furry sphere made a pretty good match with the underlying geometry texture thought I would 3D paint my spherically mapped cat and use that texture map in the Octane shader
OK except for one small detail
UV's affect the fur and all the guide hairs end up along the spine to to tip of the tail.
draping goes very scruffy and you cannot style it at all
it is not a perfect match either but closer than using mesh projection.
I realize the limitations of the Octane UV mapping and instead of trying to get a square peg to fit a round hole was trying to use a different peg!
