We are very pleased to announce the availability of OctaneRender™ for NewTek® LightWave™, developed by Juan Gonzalez using OctaneRender's SDK. Now you can render with OctaneRender™ GPU-based rendering engine from within the NewTek® LightWave™ modelling environment.
OctaneRender™ is currently recognized by many industry professionals and 3d graphic visualization artists as the most advanced and fastest GPU-based physically-based render engine with an advanced and flexible node-based workflow and user-interface. Now, with our new plugin products, you can have the most advanced, fastest physically-based render engine on the market tightly integrated into your 3d modeling and animation software.
This new plugin will provide a fast workflow and rendering pipeline suitable for interactive editing and fast final animation rendering output by using LightWave's environment for scene setup. Fine-tuning and animating all parameters for objects, materials, lights, media are done all from inside LightWave.

LIGHTWAVE VERSION REQUIREMENTS
This release requires Lightwave 10, 11 or 11.5, 32 and 64bit, on Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8.
This initial release includes: - Full geometry support, including n-gons, (currently Octane can't render polygons with holes or complex shapes). - Support of full transformations and deformation in polygonal objects, including parenting, bones, etc. - Full support of Lightwave SDS (both Subpatch and CC). - Support of Lightwave displacement mapping. - Support of LW dinamics including Bullet dinamics. - Custom light source to support all Octane lighting features. - Support of Octane thinLensCamera that match LW perspective camera - Native Octane instancing using cloned objects, nulls or with Lightwave 11 instancing system. - Custom preview window that show rendering in progress with current rendering information. - Support of basic Lightwave shading with envelopes. - Support of advanced shading using Lightwave node editor, with support for all Octane nodes using custom LW nodes to make available all Octane shading materials and features. - Plugin can work with multiple cameras. - Full support of Octane diagnostics and log files. - Support of Octane UV mapping. Plugin also has a custom node to allow cubic mapping without UV maps stored in the object. - Support of Lightwave object activation flag. - Support of Lightwave compositing options. - Full support of Octane IPR (interactive preview render) working in a external window who allow user to zoom, pan, stop render, etc. - IPR navigation functions in both 2D camera view or 3D perspective or target viewport. - IPR can store images, save them or clone current view. - Octane and Lightwave native renderer can be used in the same scene. - Global surface override options. - Real time enable/disable GPUs buttons in the IPR and rendering preview windows. - Support of texture maps image sequences.

COMPATIBILITY AND OCTANERENDER STANDALONE REQUIREMENT
To run OctaneRender™ for Lightwave™, you need to have an activated OctaneRender™ Standalone copy on the machine you wish to install the plugin onto. You cannot purchase only the LightWave plugin and use it without also owning an activated copy of OctaneRender™ Standalone on your machine.
A license for the plugin product alone will cost 99 € while in the initial open beta phase, and 199 € when the final version of the plugin is released.
The plugin will require the user to have a valid OctaneRender™ Standalone version installed and activated. If you don't have an OctaneRender license yet, you can purchase both the plugin and the engine/standalone licenses as one bundle during the beta phase for 279 euros.
You can also purchase a 3, 5 or 10 pack of OctaneRender™ for LightWave™ licenses, just like OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition packs.
Please follow the installation instructions in the HTML manual. There is one archive for both 32 and 64 bit versions.
- Download the install file for your system (32 or 64 bits). Inside the install file there is the plugin for Lightwave 10.x and for Lightwave 11.x, the octane.dll and octane.dat files, a custom LW menu bar file and some sample scenes. - Copy the octane.dll and octane.dat files into you install Lightwave/bin directory. - Add the plugin to the Lightwave Layout. - Install the custom menu bar to get access to the Octane features.
Just like OctaneRender Standalone, The Lightwave plugin product also needs an OctaneLive license and be activated on a machine.
This has to be done in the plugin interface, and is covered in the manual. It can only be done after an OctaneRender Standalone license is already activated on the machine in question.
NVIDIA DRIVER REQUIREMENTS
This version requires video driver 301.42 or higher.
It is also highly recommended that you have your Windows display adapter set to a non-Octane rendering graphics card (ie. your on-board graphics card, or a second graphics card).
- Octane currently doesn't support complex polygons or polygons with holes. To avoid artifacts user must work only wth 3 or 4 vertex polygons. - Octane is a GPU render engine. It can't use any kind of CPU shaders, materials, textures or any other kind of nodes available inside Lightwave. You must always use the Octane nodes to shade the objects. Lightwave material parameters like "T" texture layers or Lightwave nodes are not supported by the plugin. Only a few basic material parameters (color, diffuse, specular or transparency) are supported by Octane. - Lightwave native lights doesn't work with Octane. Users must use only the Octane light to work with Octane. - Octane has it's own color space functions and tone mapping. To work with Octane user must always disable the Lightwave color space (set all values to Lineal). Lightwave color space functions are not supported by the plugin. - Currently Octane doesn't support ray visibility options, so all visibility options of Lightwave don't work. Features like all "unseen by" or cast or receive shadows are not supported. - Octane for Lightawave currently can't render particle systems. It also can't work with 1 or 2 vertex polygons - FiberFX is not supported. - Current version of Octane doesn't support Motion Blur. - Lightwave Image Editor options are not supported by the plugin. Octane read the maps from the files itself, and can't process the Image Editor options. - Limited region rendering is not supported by Octane. - This first version of the plugin doesn't support Octane Live materials within Lightwave. - Octane doesn't support multiple UV maps. User must be sure that each vertex doesn't have more than one UV map. To avoid problems it's best to work with only one UV map in each object layer.
If you have any issues, please report them here, and include the following information:
- Operating System (ie. Win XP, Vista, 7, 8) - 32 or 64 bit - Amount of RAM - Graphics Card(s) - model (ie. GTX 580, 3GB) - Nvidia driver version - Lightwave version
No it is not in the downloads area, my poser version is there but no Lightwave. You can however get it in the OctaneLive area for the download. Looks cool, playing with your dragon scene now. Congrats and I hope the Lightwave community comes out big for you to support this.
Can you please clarify what you mean by the downloads area? As soon as your purchase is processed and the license is available and showing in the "OctaneLive Accounts" page (it can take up to 20min for your purchase to be processed), you should be able to either click on the "download installation files here" link on that page, or click the Downloads button in the customer area and select lightwave from the drop down list.
