Hi,
i've purchased a skin shader from the blender market and been trying to bring it into daz. Currently i'am facing the issue of polyoutlines (or some kind of shadows) become visible. The shader is applied to the face surface only. I tracked the problem down to the sss pass (and and the reflection pass as well but i guess its because of the sss pass) of the specular material parts. The density for the scatering nodes are quite high compared to my tests before. They are 1000, 2500 and 5000. Kernel is PT, Ray epsilon 0.000005. I can reduce the visible effect by increasing the sub division level of the model but i hope for another solution. Decreasing the density would reduce the visibilty of the polyoutlines too but it's not in favor of the shader appearance. The volume step lengths dosnt seem to effect the problem (tried 1 to 1000). If i missed necessary informations, please let me know.
Octane Version 2020.1.0.50
I would appreciate if someone could give me a tip.

I can see faceting on both renders. It looks like Smoothing has not been turned on for the material.

Hi paul, i double checked that already. Smooth on each material node is on (2 diffuse 3 specular). I attached more passes, hopefully it will help to determine the problem.face_off wrote:I can see faceting on both renders. It looks like Smoothing has not been turned on for the material.

Subdivision normals are smoothed on the mesh itself as well. The surface smooth is enabled too.
Because i read in other threads problems were scale and distance from origin, but i didnt rescale the model and position is in origin. Currently i dont use displacement, so this shouldnt have an effect.
Edit: The faceting occurs on the diffuse materials aswell, didnt noticed it at first. I put a default diffuse material and still have faceting. Mhmm i guess its some other problem than the shader itself. I'am still trying to figure out what the problem could be, but i'am runing out of ideas.
Edit_2: Created a complete new scene with default gen 8 figure, setted kernal to pt and rendered and still have faceting... If it helps i'am using 2 RTX 2070, drivers are up to date, trx acceleration is disabled
Edit_3: Exported to scene as orbx and opened it in a 4.02 something studio version of octane, still faceting :S
Kind regards.
Can you export the scene to an ORBX file and post here or PM me please, and I will take a closer look.

I sended it to you via pm but i may found something related.
I found a thread in the maxon cinema4d plugin forum viewtopic.php?f=30&t=73994
I guess this could be related since the shader uses anisotropy too. There is a fix in the pipeline, sadly not before 2020.2 :S
Edit: Tried setting the Anistrophy on all materials to zero -> still faceting :S

I had a look at the scene - and as you indicated, it seems to derive from the SSS render pass. I have reported the issue to OTOY, so hopefully they will provide a response here once they have looked at it.
Thanks
