@matej: Ok, thanks, I will test that.

Beta 2.2 RC1: Blender 2.49 Export Script testing thread
Hi Octane Team,
I don't know why you're wasting your time on 2.49 support, 2.57 is very stable and 2.58 will come in a few weeks.. and you know that
so why do we still don't have any (official) export script for the great new Blender.. I know there's still a lot of people using 2.49
but they won't stay on this version forever, personnaly I took the 2.5 the first time I've heard about it a long time before alpha versions (2 years ago).
I've heard of Octane about one year ago and I bought it in the last 6 months, but officially I can't use it cause of unsupported 2.5 version.
I hope to see more news about the 2.5 exporter script you.. and please 2.49 users don't blame me, the future do not wait !
Thank you

Hey, please don't speak for other people ! There are a lot of users of 2.49, even professionnal, and I am one of them. Currently, there are several reasons for staying with 2.49 : big project started with 2.49 and not able to switch to 2.5x because of differences in animations tools, features that still can be modified, exporter from other softwares to Blender not ready for 2.5x, lack of time to work on a project and learn a new version at the same time, and more...I don't know why you're wasting your time on 2.49 support
So, support of export script for Blender 2.49 is still welcome !

They are not wasting any time because the script for 2.49 has not been in development for months.
The unofficial script for 2.5 is very much usable, so there is no reason not to use it.

I don't say that they should stop 2.49 support..
I could not test Octane demo before buying it because the exporter script was only accessible to licensed customers,
so I bought Octane because it was written that Blender was supported BUT what I found after is that only 2.49 is supported officialy,
a version that I have not touched since 2 years (the beginning of 2.5 alpha).
I have tried the unofficialy exporter fortunately, otherwise I would have happily bought octane for nothing...
And the maintainer of the unofficial exporter says it could alter the .blend files, you know something like "at your own risk".
Hopefully I follow Luxrender and now cycles.. but I still wonder how long my octane version will remain unusable..
At least I am happy that 2.49 can use it.. at least..

Hello, I can't speak for animation, because as the export time is long,Iuse it very few, but for still pictures, as there are very few difference between 2.49b and 2.5x, I think that it would be possible to open a 2.5x blend file with 2.49b and just export the geometry and materials in obj, with only the limitation at 16 materials per object in 2.49b...

In case you haven't noticed the "official" exporter is not in development since November 2010. Officially the 2.49 exporter may be still the supported one, but practically it's not supported and I'm almost 100% that there won't be any updates of that exporter.
OTOH, the "unofficial" 2.5 exporter is being developed and updated by a dedicated user and if you check the unofficial exporter thread, you'll see that the author was constantly improving and updating the script = supporting. Now the script does everything the "supported" one does (except exporting particles) and the development has stopped because there will be a redesign of the Octane scene files in favor of dropping the .obj/.mtl thing.
The unofficial script won't crash your computer or eat your .blend files, so you can start using it like everybody else.

Have you a date for launch a 2.5 plugin exporter?
What do you mean? The exporter for 2.5x is available here. It's old, but still works the same in the latest 2.59acestudio wrote:Have you a date for launch a 2.5 plugin exporter?
If you mean an "official" launch, AFAIK there won't be any. Atleast not with the exporter that Lionel is developing.
