SketchUp Animation 1024-08

I have about 700 scenes in SU, each one representing a frame in the animation sequence.

When I run the render-animation from scene 1 to 700, the CPU (4 cores) is working at about 25% for about two hours with no images produced. There’s no GPU activity. What is it doing?

Later, after about two hours, the rendering starts. However, it gets to producing image 54 of 700, then it stops or hangs. At this point, there’s no CPU activity, no GPU activity, the render button is still grayed out and the blank DOS CMD screen is still open.

I makes all of the 'commands' for every selected scene in one giant step.
If you tell it to make an OBJ for each scene it will take a very long time - there are options at the start - the only time you make multiple OBJ files is if the geometry changes between scenes - e.g. layers/on/off and geometry is thereby changed or 'moved'...
Are there lots of OBJ files [before you close the dialog] ?
Try with one...
Then it makes makes/opens the OCS with each camera setup and renders the image to a file.
Did it open/run the OCS at all ?
Did it render any images to the images' folder ?
Did you try doing a 'test run' using say just the first 10 scenes set in the dialog ?
If so, did it make those successfully ?
If you edit the octane.cmd file that is in the SKP's folder until the dialog is closed, what does it say ?
What are your various dialog settings ?
Your 700 renders of large hi-res images will take a looooooong time to process...
It may well be breaking Octane itself ???
:o

TIG,

This time I selected “YES” to the prompt, after clicking the Render-Animation button, and this created just one OBJ file.

This time it generates 204 images before stopping. After which the two DOS CMD screens, render and animation, remain open but without any activity. At this point, Octane is offline—it only comes online when it is called upon to render, then it goes offline.

As for the dialog settings, only the Export Camera was selected. I want to also select the Blur Effect, but selecting this will hang up the process from the start—no DOS CMD screen ever appears.

Sounds like Octane itself is dying ?
Before closing the dialog... open the project folder and edit the octane[_anim].cmd file... does it contain all of the lines needed to make every scene expected ?
You have avoided duplicated scene-names haven't you ??
I'd expect all of them to be in there - so perhaps there's a limit in the number of iterations octane can take ???

If you can already get a few hundred images out... then why not split your animation renders into say ~4 'sets'?
You seem to have hit a limit of ~200 images per animation export ???
You can specify the start scene, end scene and the start image's name.
Do the first ~175, noting the last scene name and the last image name exported, and restart from the next scene name with the next image name for another ~175... repeat until you have done all ~700...

The animation exporter always exports the camera etc, irrespective of the dialog's settings... see the usage notes...

Sure. I will try your steps.

Could you take a look at why the Motion Blur option doesn't work?

I think the Sketchup Exporter or the Animation Cmd is stopping short and not completing all the calls to Octane.

It hangs up at random spots. Yesterday it stopped at frame 204; this morning at 283; this afternoon at 77.

The octane_anim.cmd file contains all the lines to each scene, as you've predicted.

Sp the octane_anim.cmd file contains all of the scene calls.
Does it also have motion_blur calls if you have set them ?

Can you get a motion-blur affect to work on a single Rendered frame ?

I really don't understand why your sequence should be stopping short.
I can't get anything similar to happen.
Your PC isn't going to sleep part way through is it ?
The cmd file should run all of the steps and Octane should open/render/save/close each one :?
You say the cmd window is 'empty' ?
You could try renaming the .cmd before the dialog is shut and thereby the file is auto-deleted.
Then edit the .cmd so that the 'echo off' is disabled [add REM in front ?] so the cmd window shows all of the processes.
Also add a new 'PAUSE' at the very end so it doesn't auto-close itself...
Save it and double-click its icon to re-run.
See what the cmd window says now.
There might be error messages ?
Does Octane stop at the same place as the cmd etc ??

With Motion Blur selected, the octane_anim.cmd file is never created. Sketchup Exporter just hangs.

I will test again using your suggested hack, without Motion Blur.

Can you run it with motion-blur, with the Ruby Console open and see if there are any errors.

I think I see a 'scene' reading issue but would like more feedback...

As an aside... I assume that NONE of the scene, image-files, folder etc have names containing non-ASCII characters [like accented letters] :?

I've fixed the "motion-blur in animation == fail" issue in version -09, which is just about to be posted - you should get it...
