For those of you using ACES/OCIO along with Cinema 4D R2023, we have put together a settings guide to get you going. Follow the instructions in the guide to set up your Color Management configuration in Cinema to see Octane renders correctly in the C4D Picture Viewer. If you have any issues with the information in the guide, please report in this thread.

Remember, this guide applies to Cinema 4D R2023 only.

Great guide but there is serious issue using gradient node which not work using OCIO color management - all materials are too bright while using gradient node.

Included all files. It seems that gradient is not linearlized ( wrong gamma ) using C4D OCIO

I believe that you have to have the Colorspace menu in Live Viewer set to OCIO<sRGB>. When set to that value, the output looks correct to my eye. Also you need to make sure that your Camera Imager is set up properly Octane Settings > Camera Imager > OCIO View should be set to ACES:sRGB.

No, this is not correct that only gradient node has problems between switching profiles. And yes, of course I have correct settings. Gamma 2.2 must be added to gradient to looks the same in OCIO.

Am I right that this only affects the display of the rendering in the picture viewer and other than that we are fine just using the build in aces checkbox in the camera imager?

I'm not sure why you're trying to use ACES profiles from C4D native. All you need to use just Octane OCIO settings from our sections. C4D OCIO side is completely ignored in the plugin.

Thanks for this guide - I've been meaning to update my default cinema config to use the new OCIO features inside cinema. Following your directions with the latest C4D 2024 & Octane plugin I noticed I need slightly different settings to achieve the same results.

In the "Set Up Color Management In Project Settings" settings I have to set "view transform" and "Thumbnails" to ACES 1.0 SDR-video for renders to display properly in the render view.

Will this have any adverse effects? The guide recommends using RAW for this.
