Hi,
I have a weird problem but not octane related.
When I install octane, or ornatrix,... for 3dsmax 2022, the installer create a "3dsmax 2022" folder inside my 3dsmax 2022 folder.
So I need to move files by hand to the correct location.
Anybody have already have this problem ?

Hi HHbomb,
One thing you could check:
In Windows 'Run' / Search box , type 'regedit'
This should open the Registry Editor.
In the top line, type
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\3dsMax\24.0
This should list several information on the right panel.
Check
"Installdir" : "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2022\"

That's the directory that is used by Octane plugin installer, and probably other plugins..

Don't change anything from the Registry editor..
If something seems wrong, just un-install and re-install 3dsMax, and check again with regedit..

Ho, that looks not too good..
It seems max was really installed in C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2022\3ds Max 2022 ..

I see 3 options:
#1 : live with it, doing some copy from one place to the other from time to time, if it seems necessary (but really, it should not be needed..)
#2 : keep xxx\3ds Max 2022\3ds Max 2022 as the main folder, just try to cleanup xxx\3ds Max 2022
#3 : try to change the main folder to xxx\3ds Max 2022

I think #1 is the best and safest thing to do, if you don't want to re-install.

Some warning for #2 and #3 :
If you are going to try to change something, make a backup, copy the full C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2022 to another drive !
And it would be a good time to do a Windows Restore point too, read about it too !
And, because another thing you could try is to change the registry, read about the registry editor, and do a File/Export, with Export range 'All' .. just in case..
Well, ideally, if you want to be super safe, get a new hard drive, make a full raw copy of your C drive with special tools, and be ready to do a full restore..
(changing the wrong thing in regedit could make your windows not booting at all..)

For #2, that's if your C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2022\ contains other files and folder, other that the folder '3ds Max 2022'
In this case, you could try to copy [move] everything (except for the folder '3ds Max 2022') from xxx\3ds Max 2022 to xxx\3ds Max 2022\3ds Max 2022
Do a copy first, then try to run max/close max, several times, deleting the files and folders from xxx\3ds Max 2022 that are now duplicated, little by little..

For #3, Basically you can use regedit to change the 3 values from Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\3dsMax\24.0 ,
changing the parts with C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2022\3ds Max 2022\ to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2022\
and move all the files from C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2022\3ds Max 2022\ to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2022\

The problem is that there are several other places that the original path may be referenced, (like in other plugins's settings, shortcuts to 3dsmax.exe, etc..)
So you should copy all the files, instead of moving them, so that those other software can find what they need..

That could work, just replace your 3dsmax.exe shortcuts to make sure it runs from xxx\3ds Max 2022 instead of xxx\3ds Max 2022\3ds Max 2022
It could also fail, or gives more problems, so hopefully you can restore all the files and regedit as it was..
