This is the second stable release of version 3 Standalone providing fixes for most of the bugs that have been reported for 3.00.
Update: There have been a few major issues in 3.01, so we had to release a quick-fix update (see below for the changes).
Changes since version 3.00
- Modified the appearance of the account tab under
File -> Preferences -> Account
. It shows you now your user name as well if you are signed in using the online or the offline licensing mode. It also shows you if you are signed in, but couldn't connect with OctaneLive and provides you with a button to go online.
Future SSO / license features will be added to this user interface since it will also be provided by the plugins. - Signing out in Octane will now release all licenses activated by the user on the system the user is signing out from.
- More tweaks to the authentication system to reduce the problems that the offline data can't be written.
- Added more safety checks to the authentication system and tried to catch more exceptions.
- Fixed a bug when re-trying to sign-out will cause sign-out to be canceled due to what we assumed to be an inconsistent state.
- Rendering can now be started with the play button whenever a render target node is selected.
- When deselecting nodes results in only one render target node being selected we don't automatically start rendering of that one.
- Rendering doesn't automatically start anymore if you select items with the lasso.
- Changed the way how buttons are drawn that are toggled on, to allow the user to distinguish between disabled buttons and buttons that are toggled off.
- Improved version conversion of resolution settings of the render target node, i.e. if the resolution node is external, we make the film settings external, too, and connect it with the original resolution source node.
- Fixed subsurface scattering (see viewtopic.php?f=30&t=54327).
- Fixed kernel crash on Maxwell GPUs that occurred if tried to render volumes into a deep pixel buffer.
- Fixed issue that caused PMC samples to be counted incorrectly if integration gets interrupted by a tone mapping request (see viewtopic.php?p=276043#p276043).
- Fixed wireframe kernel when rendered with the baking camera.
- Fixed baking of dirt materials (see viewtopic.php?p=277207#p277207).
- Fixed padding of the baking camera when the raw passes are tonemapped.
- Fixed compilation of sphere primitives.
- Fixed loading of emission grid from OpenVDB files, when no "temperature" grid is available.
- Fixed crash when you copy a greyscale render pass into the clipboard (see viewtopic.php?f=23&t=54614).
- Fixed initialization of new shortcuts that are not stored in the saved shortcuts file.
- Using configured file chooser for the "Import..." function of the node graph editor instead of always using the native file chooser.
- Fixed drag and drop of LiveDB materials and textures to node graphs when they were in separate windows.
- Fixed a bug where network rendering would never reach max. samples/pixel if you are using sub-sampling and enable+disable interactive region rendering (see viewtopic.php?p=276746#p276746).
- Restored tool tips on the combo icons on toolbars.
- Removed the adaptive subdivision mode from the mesh/scene import preferences since it didn't work as expected.
- Octane version number is added to the start menu links so they don't appear as duplicates on Windows 10.
- Fixed turntable and daylight animation scripts.
Changes since version 3.01
- Fixed catch-22 when you can't sign out to renew your authentication, because you can't deactivate your licenses, because your SSO authentication has expired. To solve the conundrum you can now re-enter your password to re-authenticate yourself, which then allows you to sign-out and deactivate your licenses.
- Fixed crash during startup when you can't activate a license and want to sign in as a different user.
- Handling invalid sun direction of (0, 0, 0) using a fallback of (0, 1, 0) to avoid that CUDA kernels crash when a scattering volume is rendered.
- Fixed deadlock when sub-sampling is used with network rendering.
- Fixed layout of VDB import preferences dialog.
- Linux: Switched to GCC 4.8 to fix the CUDA render issues as well as the crash during loading of file assets.
- Update from 10/6/2016: We noticed that the net render slave crashes on OSX during the initial launch from the net render daemon. This problem should also occur on the other platforms, but for some reason doesn't. Anyway, to make sure that this issue is fixed we updated the commercial Standalone builds on all platforms (version 3.01.1b). The internal version number did not change to keep current 3.01.1 plugins compatible with these slave versions.
CUDA requirements
Due to a CUDA compiler bug we had to switch to CUDA 7.5, which means on Windows and Linux you may need to update your NVIDIA graphics driver to a current version which supports at least CUDA 7.5. On Mac OSX you may have to update the CUDA driver for Mac to a current version supporting at least CUDA 7.5.
