The latest and previous versions hang on waiting for image (for me).

I've had this before and just needed to update my Nvidia driver, but it hasn't worked this time.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

Thanks.

my usual drill for this sort of thing:
restart computer after install

if that fails:
uninstall and reinstall relevant software and then restart

I hve the same exact issue, happened with 23.0 and 23.1

I've tried restarting, deleting, removing preference..etc and still the same issue. Rendering with F12 works BTW, it is just the view that keeps on hanging.

Looking at the octane studio server logs I keep getting the following:

Code: Select all

Error while fetching ORC subscription status: ORC subscription status can just be fetched when activated
Tried to access pin via an invalid ID P_UNKNOWN (0)
Tried to access null node pin
Can't read bool from static pin 'unknown' (P_UNKNOWN, type PT_UNKNOWN) of node '' (NT_UNKNOWN, 00007FF85B89EB90)
Tried to access pin via an invalid ID P_AI_LIGHT_STRENGTH (385)
Tried to access null node pin
Can't read float from static pin 'unknown' (P_UNKNOWN, type PT_UNKNOWN) of node '' (NT_UNKNOWN, 00007FF85B89EB90)
Tried to access pin via an invalid ID P_AI_LIGHT_STRENGTH (385)
Tried to access null node pin
Can't write float to static pin 'unknown' (P_UNKNOWN, type PT_UNKNOWN) of node '' (NT_UNKNOWN, 00007FF85B89EB90)
Server is activated and shaw the status, but anything else doesn't work. What is worse is that it is working at random. Meaning it worked once in 23.1 and then it stopped and I started having this error. Then in 23.0 it didn't work for several retries and then it worked once and that was it.

I did some research on the above error code and found a post in Otoy forums that suggested that this is because of the passes for preview being set for denoise beauty and I should set it to combined because the denoise is not present. Well mine is set to combined by default, and any other type causes the same issue.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you

Anyone?

I've raised a support ticket on this and didn't get an answer, and this thread doesn't seem to attract any solution.

Can someone from Otoy please provide support?

Thank you

Ok I found what the problem is.

Check nvidia settings, try to find Blender in the application specific, if it's not there add it manually. You'll realise that Blender viewport is using the integrated graphics for some reason. Now this might not be blender's fault. I believe this is E-Cycles, I was testing it and the profile for BlenderOctane is showing E-Cycles. I noticed this problem occurs because only installed programs have the proper configuration (happens when debugging games), if they are not installed then they default to the integrated graphics.

Anyway, when you add the new profile, make sure to force Nvidia's card. Save and open BlenderOctane again, the viewport should fly with octane.

Hope this helps.

I'm using integrated GPU for Blender 3d viewport and never had issues with Blender or Octane.

...and I don't have integrated graphics - only my GPUs, and they are selected.

Are OTOY on vacation?

Fixed - none of my GPUs were selected in Octane Device Preferences.
