This is just quick test of trying to recreate a wax material for some candles. I know some of the uvs are not correct since my main focus was the candles. Rendered with pathtracing.

Very Nice. :)
Can you post the settings of the wax material? I made, some time ago, tried to replicate... look here

http://www.refractivesoftware.com/forum ... f=9&t=7681

and Radiant Tutorial series "SSS hack - thanks to refracty" http://www.refractivesoftware.com/forum ... 6&start=30

but it's a fake wax (my settings) ;) and maybe it's complicated settings :?

I posted two versions of fake wax on octane live db in materials/misc section. Try them on the scene that you tested with and maybe you need to tweak them a bit. The first material uses translucency mixed slightly with a glossy material to give it shine and the second one has
the same settings but instead the transluceny is replaced with a specular material with high roughness and some tweaking of absorption.

have fun :D

I really like your setup. Very nice indeed.

I just started testing this today myself, and couldn't figure out a few things. Most of them have to do with scale. I just noticed the tutorials by radiance, so I'll watch those before I put up any noob questions, here are my pics...

p.s. I should probably set up a different test. Something doesn't seem proper to me. I'm not used to setting up this kind of stuff.

What did you use for the setup, translucency or absorption, also what do mean
by shadow map.

I stuffed the 2 different materials into the open diffuse slot that is "supposed?" to be for translucency.

I should have just written "translucency map". I hope it will give me the proper results.
