Viewport rendering hangs when changing parameters.

Hi,

First post here so forgive me if I'm not doing this right.

I have been playing around with Octane for a few months and love it but there is a bug that is driving me crazy.

When using the viewport rendering c4d hangs every time I change gradients or color sliders, it has been doing this since the first day I started using it and I have tried it on two different machines.
this works fine in the Live viewer. Just move the slider of the gradient for reproduction while the render is on in the viewport.

Win11, RTX 4090 v566.14, 128gb ram.

Thanks for the report, it is reproducible in Windows, while it works without issue in macOS.

ciao,

Hi there,

not sure if I should open a separate thread for that but since 2024 I have constantly issues with hangs and hard freezes too especially when changing simple parameters. Change a parameter in a gradient or drag a slider slightly too fast – live viewer freezes. Sometimes works for a day or so but on the other day it crashes every time. I can't playback my animation and have the live viewer running. I know that's demanding but it worked all the time since 2024 release. I can save when the live viewer freezes but as soon I hit the reset button c4d crashes. I can't even send a console log or bug report because I either have to force quit c4d or shut my MacBook down completely because everything is freezing.

Had hopes and updated to the 2025 release (standalone, plugin and network daemon) just to find out in the first 3 minutes that its still the same.

Working on a Macbook M2 Max (15.3.1) with 32 GB and have a Windows Machine hooked up with a 3090. Problems are the same if I am network rendering or not.

Any Ideas?
Lars

Hi Lars,
have you already tried with new 2025.1 build 0104?

Hi Beppe,

yes, that's the version I have installed right now. I tried it right now again. I moved the camera wildy with the live viewer running to provoke a crash but – no crash. I went back in camera view, clicked on the litte camera icon in c4d and the camera view changed and the live viewer crashed. See attached video. You can see the render freezes and c4d freezes when I click reset (you can't see the beachball in the video capture though).

Thanks,
Lars

Don't know but I have the feeling it only happens when using any interface elements like go back in camera view, sliders, gradients etc. C4d itself is usable on the initial freeze which means I can save.

Hi Lars,
thanks for sharing the video, now the issue is more clear, and yes, you should have opened a new thread, since you are not having issues with Viewport rendering but with Live View in general.

I cannot reproduce your issue here with my scenes, so my suggestion is to write to help at otoy dot com asking for Beppe.
In this way I can investigate your issue more deeply.

ciao,
Beppe
