Post Pass with Alpha Channel

Dear OTOY Support,

I'm running HoudiniFX 20.5.370 with the matching Octane build Version 2024.1.0.1 on Windows 10.
My workstation is a AMD TR3970X, 128GB RAM, 2x3090.

I'm having trouble exporting a proper Post Pass when the Alpha Channel is enabled.
I have particles with an emissive material in the scene. Unfortunately, their post effects don't show up, unless they're "in front" of geometry.

In the C4D Version of Octane this has never been an issue, so I wanted to see, if this behavior is expected. Maybe I should add, that I have
around 10yrs experience, working in Octane for C4D, but have just now made the transition to Octane for Houdini. Is there something I'm missing?

Thank you for your help!
Gregor

Presumably OpenEXR format?

Yes, EXR. I did try and use PNG, but it yielded the same results.

EXR was correct. PNG must be avoided.

On Standalone 2024 STABLE and Beta, it is all working as expected (OpenEXR associated aka "premultiplied") with post bloom enabled.
That does not mean the plug-in is "bug free" but at least confirms that Octane "core" is cleared out.

This page is an early introduction to "Alpha", demonstrated with Octane.

Did you enabled or disabled "alpha channel" and "keep environment" in the kernel tab?

Hey skientia,

appreciate you taking the time!

So, essentially I used all the same settings, I'd use in Cinema4D.
I think, I'll have to do some more testing here.

Since you pointed out that everything works as expected in Standalone, I'd say this might be a plugin issue.
I'll read through the page you posted, too.

Hi Gregor, can you post an image or provide a scene file?

If you export to Standalone from Houdini, and save there do you get different results?
