Changing the render kernels via the new node system has no effect at all on my system. Not in the viewport, nor in final rendering.

My System:

PopOS 22.04
Nvidia RTX 2080ti (driver 535.86.35)
48GB RAM

OctaneBlender 2023.01 beta1 28.0

I can confirm this on my side too. I don't know how to make kernel change to work.

At the moment you can change kernel in render settings panel.

I'm not sure if you are running Windows and that might work for you because of that.
For the Linux build I first have to create the kernel node setup to see the kernels in the render settings panel. Before that it's just empty.
Changing the kernels in the render settings panel works in the UI, but it has no effect.

Anyway, thanks for you suggestion!

This bug still exists in OctaneBlender 2023 beta2-

No the bug is also contaminating the 27.17 supposedly stable release.

I really hate with the passion this idea of kernels being in a separate nodes editor. I see no benefit to it whatsoever and today instead of working I have to waste time debugging why I can't migrate to the new version and use stable Octane Blender build.

I have a hunch it's because you migrating to addon only Octane version and there might be some values in the scene data that you store which clashes with previous Octane versions which causing this mess.

If I load your New → Octane Default Scene then it works fine. But if I load from my scene then it doesn't. I used to save my scene as default after I organized my file. I don't want to rebuild it but I guess it has too much legacy internal settings/values from previous Octane versions which doesn't allow it run smoothly.

If you have any suggestions how to clean this up/fix manually, please do so.

Changing Kernels works here.

Can you please describe what you're doing exactly?

By the way, in the next builds we'll implement the same Kernel workflow available in the latest addon release, which basically makes it very similar to the way it was working in the previously.

I'm not doing anything special. I'm just trying to use Kernels but it seems like they're not affecting the scene at all.

I'd love to provide the scene file so you could poke around because I have no clue why this is happening. I see no options on the forum to upload my files.

I've been trying to migrate to 27.17 since release but it just has too many critical issues for me which prevents me from doing any work.

I used the console to see if I can catch any good information there. It seems like internally Octane is look for some values in the folders which doesn't exists on my machine and is not using correct blender config folders.

Are you using portable files? It's important to keep all version configuration-independent.

Everything works as expected here. Of course changing Max Samples doesn't have any effect, since is referred to the final render.

Changing Preview Samples, Diffuse depth and so on works fine here.
