When rendering with the info channel kernel it will put out black pngs. I set it to zdepth and hit render, in the render window it shows up fine but the saved png is black. Any ideas?

Can you try TGA, TIF or EXR just to be sure it's not PNG saver or software what you use for looking PNGs...

As far as I know octane lw can only output png and exr. I tried exr, same results.

I'am rendering TGA 32bit and JPGs since forever so not sure where that info comes from about PNG and EXR only ?

Are you looking at the resulting image in a program that can display the higher bit depth data, and do you know how to check for it? The Z depth info may be there, but not being resampled properly to display on your monitor.
