Background Object Crashing Octane Every Time - Alternative?

Hey everyone,

Apologies if this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find anything.

The C4D background object is causing Cinema 4D (s24 and r25) to completely lock up and crash while trying to Live Preview with Octane (multiple versions - I tried rolling back to test). Is there a known fix for this and/or are there any alternative methods to lock a background image in the live viewer? This is an essential functionality when it comes to adjusting lighting and camera settings for compositing objects with live footage.

Thanks!

Could you post your scene, please?

I tried attaching the collected ZIP and the C4D file but it doesn't seem to post. Can I send you a dropbox link privately?

There's not any known problem with this. Unless you're doing something is not encountered before. Posting a scene can help.

Here is the scene:

I am experiencing the same issue in different scenes, different builds of Octane and different versions of C4D.

I had to merge your file into a new scene, as it seems there were some issues. Here is my result:
labnorth_LV.png
And the scene file:
background_crash-jr.rar
(124.59 KiB) Downloaded 72 times
Some notes:
  • Never use the bitmap node — always use the Image Texture node instead. The OctaneSky object was using the Bitmap node.
You had Alpha Channel disabled in the Render Kernel. If you use the Background Object, you need to enable the Alpha Channel in the Render Kernel in order to see the result.
Hope this helps!

This build seems to have fixed the issue (fingers crossed). Thank you.
