high poly scenes

hi - does octane load geometry that is only visible to the camera, or does it load the entire scene? I am having stability issues and error messages while trying to render some archviz work -

when I try to make changes while its rendering, I get a error message, but it still makes the changes and keeps rendering - but the log shows a string of the same error -

I would ideally like to figure out my theoretical limit in polycount given my total vram is 35 gigs - or does it work differently?

my specs:

modo 15.2v1
rtx3090 latest studio drivers
rtx2080ti
64 gigs ram
amd 5950x

octane 2021.1.0.179

thank you

just tried octane 2021.1.1.181 in modo 15.2.v2 and get the same error -

I cannot figure out if this is an error or if I am just running out of memory -sorry if I am being thick I am just not tracking all the numbers correctly.

thank you

No it loads everything outside of the camera's view (but it doesn't load items hidden in the item list).

It doesn't work that way, because geo/textures need to be present on both cards while rendering. You will be limited to 11GB in your case. If you disable the 2080 Ti, you will be limited to 24GB on the RTX 3090

The error at the top of the log in your screenshot tells you, you are running out of memory (not enough free memory to run denoiser etc)

You should just let the denoiser run on 1 card in your device settings. If you have a large scene which needs more than 11GB of VRAM, you can disable the 2080 Ti completely.

ok got it - but this decreases my render speed, so I have to trade speed for memory in larger scenes?

Correct. If you had 2 of the same cards (and they support nvlink), you could nvlink them together to get roughly the combined memory of both cards (so 48GB with 2 x 3090s nvlinked)
