Slave 2020.1 RC2 always crashing

Hi,
need again some help please!
Just upgraded from V4 to latest version 2020.1R2(R4) and also rent one slave.
Have installed latest NVidia Drivers 442.19 on Slave machine.
Could install Slave 2020.1R2 without problem and its connecting properly (so no bitdefender/firewall problem)
It logging on, shows up green on my Master WS and is authentifying properly.
But as soon as the render starts the slave crashed! (slave crashed or was stopped ....)
Did I miss something with latest C4D Plugin (2020.1.RC2(R4) and Slave 2020.1.R2 Versions?
Is maybe the latest NVidia Driver causing these crashes?
thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,
do you have RTX GPUs in the Slave machine?
If yes, better to disable the RTX support for now, by adding the following .txt file in the Octane Slave directory:

Hi Beppe,
no I don't have RTX yet.
What I found out so far is, when rendering passes (cannot tell which for now)
the slave is crashing.
When I dissable "out of core" on the slave and only use f.e. 5 or 6 passes it works
(all cards in WS and Slave are1080Ti's btw.)
Need to investigate a bit more, if its only the amount of passes or really a special one
which causes the slave to crash or if its the out of core-feature.
thanks so far!
Mike

Have you tried to increase the Out -of-core on the Slave?
Maybe you are reaching the memory limit of the Slave.
Each active pass costs memory, especially with big frame buffer.
Please note that, if you need to use Out-of-core, it means that the scene is too big for your system, and you should need to decrease the complexity to have the expected speed.
Out-of-core should be used as an emergency only, you lose 20% of speed when it is enabled.

Hi Beppe,
my scene is not so heavy.
One rigged object and a few textures (less than 4 GB - all 1080Tis)
Maybe you're right and I used "too much" passes so that even
1080TIs and 12 Gig Out of Core (on the slave) were not enough.
Will try to set this higher, or use less passes!
thanks
Mike

Hi Otoy,
maybe this fixes my problem with crashing Slave?
Will test this as soon as the C4D Version "R3" is out.

don't know exactely how many years I'm using Octane now.
O.k. after all that years I'm still learning and didn't dive deep into things I maybe should know already!
But!
I bought V2, V3, then V4. I have 3 x V4 Licenses and 2 x C4D-Plugin Licenses.
Now I updated to 1 Year 2020 License and 1 Year Slave License.
And, unlike my old V4 slaves, the new 2020 Slave (for which I have to pay every year) crashes every time after connecting and starting rendering!
After so many years of using and buying octane I, damn it all, have the right to get some feedback from developers
concerning my problem!!!!!!!!
regards
Mike

Hi Mike,
please, write to
[email protected], asking for Beppe, with the issue in the title.
Something like “xBeppe: Slave 2020.1 RC2 always crashing”, thanks.
I can investigate more deeply in this way.
ciao Beppe

Hi Beppe,
thanks!
Seems, you`re the only one responding at all!
Sorry, I'm not sure: are you in the DevelopperTeam from Otoy?
I only know that Ahmet is responsible for the C4D plugin from the developer side, but no
reaction from him. Where are all the other Devs?
Why i'm angry is, that a few days after my lost post about "2020 Slave crashing"
Mojave releases a R3 Version which "seams" to include a fix for exactely that problem!
But, concerning my problem-post a few days earlier: no reaction, no replay, not even a short "we know that there are some issues - please wait for next release etc..."
Absolutely nothing! - except you of course!
Will follow your advice and mail at otoy-help! Thanks again Beppe!
Forum here is useless - at least as far as I'm concerned
regards
Mike
