Vray Light Conversion - New Problems

Hi,

Since Octane does not have a light converter, we have to use the Vray light converter and then convert it into Octane when importing FBXs. This used to work properly, but now seems broken.

I used to be able to convert a rectangular light using this process, but now all lights are converted to point lights. They are also all pointing down now, which is incorrect.

Have a look at this scene. All the rectangular lights have been converted to points. All the lights that are supposed to point sideways now point downwards.

Another thing, I wish I could control whether the light is visible by default instead of changing them all manually. I do not usually want to show this light.

Hi SamuelAB,
Octane material converter converts Vray lights.
As you can see in my screenshot all works fine.
About visible/invisible, i could ask to developers to add that option in Vray conversion option panel.

Hi Paride,

I certainly found two faults with my experience last Friday:
-The are shapes are gone and lights are transformed to point lights
-Light that do not point downwards are converted by Octane into lights that point downwards

I will try to set up a test file and screenshots when I get to work. Fro your test file, I suggest getting some files that are not pointing downwards as well.

Actually, I suggest converting a Revit file with proper lighting to see our workflow. PS- we would not be doing this 3ds Max workflow if the Revit plugin just worked with lights properly.

Hi Samuel,
please, could you better explain your workflow?
you prepare your scene using: (Revit and Vray?)
you export your file to max using: (.FBX?)
then do you convert imported scene?

I would like to help you but I cannot follow what you were saying.

Paride

Hi SamuelAB,
Is this your workflow?
viewtopic.php?f=27&t=70395#p355459
could you share a .FBX from Revit you made?

Hi Paride,

My workflow is:
-Export FBX From Revit
-Import into 3ds Max
-Switch to Vray
-Select lights and convert to Vray lights
-Using Universal Material Converter, convert materials to Standard (https://www.3dstudio.nl/webshop/product ... -converter)
-Switch to Octane and convert the whole scene materials and lights

*I wish Octane has a light converter so that I would not have to use the Vray expired trial converter*

Here are two FBXs from Revit before any of these conversions

You can see the process in this image.
I get a weird error when converting with Octane as well, see screenshot

'About visible/invisible, i could ask to developers to add that option in Vray conversion option panel.'

That would be great! A way to mass modify lights would be great as well. Something like the 3ds Max Light Lister.

My current model has 800+ lights and I'm not really feeling the hunt and click adventure of making them all invisible  :?

I've tried converting the Vray lights with Octane 3.08.3 and got the same results where a rectangular source becomes a point source.

I`ve done this successfully in the past, but it seems tohave broken at some point. Any help would be appreciated.

If I can get the volumetric lights to convert, I will be pretty happy!
