Can you post a scene?

What are you rendering? Sphere particles or some other type of voxel? You should be able to put a material directly on the emitter or sphere or whatever object you're using as the particle

you need to put your sphere inside of the geometry box in the object tag. I've set it up for you in the fixed file attached. you dont need an object tag on the sphere itself either, btw.
let me know if you need more help!

Unoptimized way to use particles. At least use render_instances or object tag with particles section.

alecmaassen's usage is good but keeping sphere under the emitter that will cause double geometry in Picture Viewer.
Here's perfect usage of particles. Please check manual for object tag and InstanceColor.

ahhhh yes aoktar is right, you dont need to be under the emitter.
