Baking Texture node not working

Hi,
I'm currently playing around with some elaborate displacement maps in Octane Render for Cinema 4D version 3.08.
However, in order to make my setup work properly, I'll have to pipe it into the Baking Texture node. However, once I do this, the displaced geometry looks incredibly mushy and becomes unusable.
Does anybody know what causes this issue? Neither ramping up the resolution of the Baking Texture and or the Displacement node nor adding the Box/Gaussian filters has any effect. Would be great to hear your thoughts!

Hi,
please, post a screenshot of the Baking Texture and displacement node settings, thanks.
ciao Beppe

Hi Bepe,
Thanks for getting back so quickly.
OK, here's a screenshot of the Baking Texture node:
And here one of the Displacement node:
This setup gives me the following result:
Which is a whole lot softer than the original image file on it's own:
And that despite the fact that I've cranked up the individual settings really high.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Are your subdivisions adequate to the demands for more precision?

Hey Tony,
Thanks for the suggestion.
The geometry is a 20x20 polygon plane, nothing amazingly high. However, this shouldn’t influence the outcome of Octane’s displacement as far as I’m aware, because it’s calculated differently, i.e. not based on the actual geometry, but ‘faked’ on top (when you zoom in you know what I mean, it’s literally hundreds of 2D planes stacked against each other), compared to Cinema 4D’s build in displacement, which actually changes the underlying geometry.
Another point that speaks against this is that everything looks fine when I’m not using the Baking Texture node. So it must be the BT node that messes things up and I wanna know why!

Your knowledge of Octane displacement exceeds my own (stuck in the past with C4D tech).

No worries. If you haven't you should definitely try it out. It's like a million times faster than C4D's own displacement. But they do cut a couple of corners to get there. Not that you'd really notice though.
This tutorial got me going initially:

Check the output resolution on your baking texture node. You did not include that in the screenshot.

Hey Jay,
Yes it's there. It's set to 4096.

Ah, yes, sorry. In the Image node, are you set to float?
