I am still working in V2;

When opening a file from October 2017, using the latest version of octane-3dsmax plugin, released May 2016,
materials render fine in editor, but in the render window there is white only.
If it was an file-plugin-incompatibility issue, materials would render white, too, right?

any idea why there is only white in the render?

On your image looks like you've got VRay materials instead of OCTANE.

Am I right?

You can try to convert them automatically using OCTANE Tools in Rendering Settings.
