Animated Corrosion effect using Gradient and Alpha channel

I start out by saying I am a total newbie with Octane. :? I am trying to accomplish something very similar to what is depicted in this video: https://vimeo.com/111327726
The author uses an animated gradient texture as an alpha channel for Xparticles to use so that as the gradient moves along the object, particles are emitted. (This description is very oversimplified.) In order to create transparency, in cinema 4d he simply activates the alpha channel and configures it. I cant figure out how to do this in octane. I tried using the image texture node and set the "type" to Alpha and I tried different border modes, but I am not getting the effect. Hopefully this makes sense. I could really use the help.

Hi ndcfoto,
sorry, not an xp user, but you need to use your alpha image in the Opacity pin, not id diffusion, with Octane materials, Diffusion is like the Color tab in a c4d shader.
