Trying to understand. What can I do now in VR?

Hi,
I'm trying to understand all the pieces and how they fit together.
I'm mainly interested in realtime VR. Is this currently a viable application for the Unity plugin or is that some way off?
And if the answer is positive - Is there a demo related to this (either compiled or as a Unity project) available?

Real-time VR is still a while off. In the mean time, you can render (stereo) cube maps, and use those in your VR device, like using our
ORBX Media Player.

How long is "a while" approximately?

So - this is basically the same as a stereoscopic 360 photosphere - but maybe with a touch more parallax with headset translation?

And a follow-up question. ORBX Media Player is for the Gear VR only. Is there really nothing running on a Vive or Rift to try out to experience OTOY technology?

Real-time will be possible after the release of Octane 4.

From
another thread:
Goldorak wrote:You can render with Octane (VR or normal) a stereo cube map that can be viewed on any VR device. I believe (although need to confirm) that the Rift's 360 photos app for PC includes our Octane VR renders, and should be able to load your own renders from your local storage.
Virtual Desktop also supports our VR cube map format. We are also bringing the ORBX player (and server!) to PC shortly, now that Octane 3.00 is out the door.

Is the release of Octane 4 planned in 2017? Or later?
