Random color using xparticle sprites

Hoping someone can help, I've gone round in circles with this one.

I am using xparticles and sprites to generate random text and would like random colors applied to each letter. Everything I have tried results in all the letters having the same color.

I've set up a simple shader using random color, into a gradient then into the diffuse slot. The texture preview shows what you would expect with lots of colored squares on the texture ball. But when applied every letter is the same colour and I can't work out how to fix this. I've done every tutorial and searched the forums and can't see an answer?

I have attached a simple C4D file showing the setup in case that helps.

Any help would be appreciated.

Randomcolors will work on render instances. You have to use mograph colors with standard instances

Thanks for replying. I might try and set the scene up using the mograph tools instead then. I was using xparticles and the sprite generator for the text but struggling as the documentation for xparticles is sadly lacking. They have a video tutorial which doesn't explain the shader option and I am struggling.

I can get the random color working on non-xparticle geo.

Thanks again, you've given me an idea on another way to try this.

How do you make a randomised color setup with standard renderer+xp? Forget it, i've discovered.
Here's what i'm trying to do for next version. We'll have some new features to assign user colors to any kind of geometries. So it will be possible to support xp generators for randomised colors. See image from my first tests.
