Material Stacking Glitchy

I've got a straightforward packaging render with a base material, for basic colour and surface bump, plus a metallic foil on top using a mask in the opacity channel.
This works fine on one part of the model, but isn't working on another part - it only renders the base material. I've been through all the settings and I can't see any mistakes I've made.
Is material stacking just a bit glitchy?
Another question regarding the latest 3.06 build - is it available yet for c4d users with subscriptions like me?
