scale trouble

One thing that has always seemed to plague me in Octane is scale.
It was super easy in C4D, extremely challenging in Maya, and I can't quite tell yet in Max...

I thought it was going correctly, setup my system units to meters, display to feet (easiest for me), export scale 1.0, import settings in octane to meters > meters.

However, I was just running into some issues with lighting, and when I zoom outside of my model room, I saw the rings which I've learned is a scale problem, usually from the obj being way too big.

I grabbed all the settings.
In max the left "box" room is 9' tall x 17' long by 5' wide.

Here's a partial grab of the obj output:

Code: Select all

#
# object Box003
#

v 0.666988 2.962091 -6.930324
v 0.862733 2.962091 -6.930324
v 0.862733 2.962091 -5.155669
v 0.666988 2.962091 -5.155669
v 0.666988 0.059771 -4.836232
v 0.862733 0.059771 -4.836232

I tried to export at .1, .01 but then i get almost no light on the inside of my room.
What could be going on, or is it fine as is? I'd hate to imagine that if it's at the right size I can never do an exterior shot...

I had some similar problems... If the scale is right, and the scene is centered around 0,0,0 in Max (another error that seems to pop up from time to time, I've learned), check the Ray Epislon setting and make sure it's not near zero.
