Blending textures for enviroments

What's the proper workflow for blending environment textures that have multiple channels(diffuse, normal, displacement). In native C4D I would potentially use body paint to mask out say a riverbed or I could even use vertex maps to some degree.

Similar to the video posted by Otoy how the road blends into grass etc...

Of course this next technique is really good if your using standard tools

I'm thinking I may have to use an external package but even substance designer/painter has limits to texture size which is no good for landscapes. I know I can get good amount of detail with scatter object and clones but getting realistic material blend down is proving impossible. People are doing it with Octane cause it's all over instagram so I must be missing something.

How do you know that's impossible? Tried?
You can use several technics. It depends to your choice/distance/etc.. But you can use scatter object's distribution properties with vertexmaps or textures. Also you should use several objects for large areas not only one object. Like divide and conquer.

I've not said it's impossible I'm asking for advice on the best technique on blending landscape materials. I think you misunderstood because I get how the scatter object works but that's geometry related not materials.

I guess I'll just have to work it out myself.

vertexmaps as texture is possible with 3.05 version.

Hi Mike,
I think that you have picked the perfect example that demonstrates the power of scattering objects in OctaneRenderâ„¢ :)
Everything you see in the video's environment is scattered geometry or displacement, even the clouds are polygonals :)
I'm sure you are going to have a lot of fun with scatter objects in c4dOctane since you can also use vertex maps and Mograph effectors ;)

Thanks yes I love the scatter object and the vertex map feature its so powerful, so well integrated.

I have the Octane VR version so I'm guessing I do not have this feature?
