Unless you're planning on moving the camera a bunch. I would just render out the characters as simple geo, and make the background in whatever compositing program. Seems way easier.

Thank you for your reply.
Of course, compositing is an option, but I'm thinking using Octane for the light and the sheet.
How can I make the effect of a real lamp behind fabric ?

Hahaha Ahmet I was just about to post this but you were faster (as usual). Funny how we both went for a dinosaur :)

Hey mips

You need:

1. Small area light for sharp shadows (optional image in distribution channel for a spotlight effect)
2. Diffuse material with dark diffuse color and bright transsmision color
3. A dinosaur.

IMPORTANT: Make sure to use the latest 3.04.5 version because transmission is broken in the previous one!

Regards
Milan

Hi,
Here is my approach on shadow. This time Turkish shadow theater :)
The puppets are transparent as well.
Using specular material with fake shadows does the trick.
