Please make viewport previews more "simpler"

Hello Neon,
I work alot with character rendering and animation, and as such my skin shader are always a mix of several materials.
right now im using as a base the tony sculptor skin r20, and whenever I apply the shader to my character in the viewport it shows up as pure tranparent with only some highlights...this in MAX 2017 and 4.21 oct.3.0, it makes it VERY HARD to animate and to ani previews...to be able to see the character i have to always be in performance mode but this of course ditches all textures and shows only object shaded.. is it possible to AT LEAST have it like before?
Before if memory serves me right, if we were to press "show shaded material in VP" it would ignore all shader settings and would force material to be shown in viewport, regardless of of the shader.
Please do this

Hi nildoe,
I think your issue depends around the settings of 3dsMax windows.
To enhance the view of your scene you could change settings like in the video.

Hey Paride,
thanks a lot for your reply and video...very supportive of you

...i know about those modes I believe i tried all of them..
see attached picture and please IGNORE the uncorrect maps on the body..but please look at the head...you will see that its too transparent (actually the whole object is, but its more noticeable in the head due to inner parts)...i can understand why...(it's a spec material after all) but i wish that we could just preview the MAP(s) that has "show shaded map in viewport" on, and have it NOT being transparent but opaque...
if i have to animate the eye for example..its very difficult like this because i would not know where the pupils are looking at..or if i wanna see the mouth animation, its hard because the teeth/innermouth shows thru, and in this case i can't just unhide the inside parts because its all the same mesh. (daz3d genesis 3 base model)

Hi nildoe,
You could use the settings of 3dsMax (uncheked transparent plastic material) to make opaque materials (eg specular) in wieport.
If you have a texture instead a color, you could use that with "show Shaded Material in Viewport" also.
Attached a video

Hi Paride..
using max17 is a bit different..but not only that..in my case i have an object cornea and then the iris/pupil, just like a real eye..so if i turn off transparency the cornea will render black occluding the eye tex of the object thats behind it...
I dunno if i understood your model right, but for the eyes u dont have a cornea, or if you do, you a texture on this object as well yes?

I understand what you mean, but how would you solve your issue?
I think you could use textures and "show Shaded Material in Viewport" in an unused slot,
adjusting the transparency using, for example, gamma.

Using SSS materials (specular) is hard to work with. Because they are viewed as transparent in viewport.
I have one possible solution for this.
There is a material called Shell Material native to 3dsmax.
This is created for previewing baked materials...
Which lets you assign 2 materials and let you select material seen in viewport and in render.
A bit similar like mix material.
But this way the rendered material will be different than viewport material.
But Octane does not support this..
My solution would be create a standard material with eyes pupils etc. in this case. simple standard max material.
Other will be the specular material or any complex material you have.
So you can switch to viewport and render material with simple click of a button.
Since octane does not support this.
It displays a grey unassigned material. Switching viewport or render material does not work.
Developer could support this material. And we would have an easy workaround.
thanks.
