Visible light

Hi,

I am trying to use a scattering medium to get some feedback on light distribution from a spotlight.

With the sunlight environment the scattering works, ie. a fog effect, but I don't get any visible light from a black body emitter with the same scattering medium settings, whether I use an ies file for distribution or not. I was hoping to see a cone of light in the 'fog'.

Thanks,
Ben

I couldn't get this to work either, so have asked Otoy for guidance.

Otoy provided the clues for this. I have the Rhino scale set to "Big"", so my geometry emitter was 100m. That required a Medium Radius of 300m. Also set the Medium Absorption and Scatter to White, and it works nicely.

Thanks Paul,

Set Rhino scale to big ?
You mean scale everything up so the light has a minimum radius of 300 meters in radius ?
I tried it but no luck yet - would you be able to send me a sample file ?

Cheers,
Ben

The Medium Radious will depend on the scene units. Pls see example attached.

Great, thanks Paul,

That's working, I am getting quite a bit of noise, even over 4000 samples, but will play with the settings some more.

I think that is the particles (medium) rendering rather than noise.
