hair and Octane

Hi all ,
I was wondering if it's planned to have an Hair shader like or if we'll be able to have control along each hair as we have with the native c4d hair shader ?
Currently with an Octane mat combined to the hair mat, we can have control of the color along each hair which is great, but not opacity/transparency ..
(I tried using a gradient (V) effect to try to control something along each hair , but the gradient is applied over the whole object not each hair parts. )

Hi clement,
We are currently working on providing full control of gradients along each hair, so the behavior you see is the expected at the moment.
Please keep an eye on future release notes as this should be ready in the short-mid term in Standalone and plugins should adapt it shortly after.
Best,

hey Pete

, yes I missed this at first try too . Sometimes you need to refresh or delete drag again the mat to make it works ( I had troubles but closing everything and relaunching the Octane viewer it worked )

thx Clement+Aoktar. i did miss seeing these files. I haven't checked them but i can see they do sample the texture for colour which is great. In my brief tests i did find octane hair to look very coarse. The distribution of the specular was the culprit. this render proves it can look great though. All be it in Ornatrix.

There is nothing to avoid getting equal or better results. Both are calculated by Octane.

We have already finished adding support for gradients along hair strides in the Octane core, and it will be available in the next release
This opens a whole lot of new for hair materials as well as compatibility with Ornatrix ( see
viewtopic.php?f=24&t=54535&p=289002&hil ... ix#p289002).
Take into account plugin devs are currently working on providing native host application support so depending on each case it may take a bit for this to be adopted.
