High Pressure Water Effect - Turbulence FD

Hi All, since there are some people here in the community that have used turbulence FD more extensively than, I was wondering if it was possible to create a high pressure water effect using Turbulence FD. Does anyone have any suggestions on the settings I should use as I'm quite new to using it.

You mean, like fast moving steam ? No problem. Totally possible to do. High pressure, solid water, like in a fire hose? Not sure you'll get the result you're after using TFD. Maybe for some parts of the overall effect, but not an entire long shot of water.

I agree with OlaHaldor... it'll work great for steam or other gasses, but not as much for liquid water. The motion itself will be an issue since I think the types of calculations being performed are different for a gaseous fluid sim versus a liquid fluid sim, and additionally you'll have trouble with surfacing since there isn't a way to apply a proper liquid (meshed) surface to a TFD cache.

But I'm no expert so I could be completely wrong... I'll wait for someone else more knowledgeable to chime in! :ugeek:

Actually the effect I'm looking to achieve is similar to high pressure water hose, the kind that can cut steel. Any tips on how that might be done?

Do you have a reference video or photo ?

The first thing that comes to mind is a simple mesh.

Yeah Draydin_r, if it is a solid stream, you could just animate a texture on it and it will look like high speed water, once you get texture and speed nailed down. Then, you just have FD or even a composited HV render be your splashing, mist etc.. this is how I have done similar stuff.

Actually, thats about what I ended up doing! I used a combination of lightwave particles leading TD effects and a solid model with subsurface scattering for the water stream.

Sounds cool! Would it be possible to see your results ?

I'll see about getting permission from the client to demonstrate the results.

Cheers!
