Question About Moveable Proxy v.2.16a

Hi All,

I think I may be missing something here regarding Proxies.

We work on massive files and noticed we've been hitting lots of 'ceilings'.

Today, I did a quick test and noticed this using a simple sphere:

The raw sphere geometry is 16, 128 polygons. I converted to an Octane Proxy and activated "moveable proxy" under Octane Properties. Why does it still show as 16, 128 polygons?

I've been using Octane for a few years now. What am I missing?

Best,
O

Hi,

Just to clarify, what happens when you introduce two or more instances of the same object. If you try creating multiple instanced copies, you should notice little to no increase in the poly count total as the number of objects increases.

Right, when I instance this sphere, the poly count does not increase.

Do I assume then, that only the first proxy is counted?

Correct. This allows for considerable savings on memory when wanting to render scenes with a high number of duplicate meshes, like vegetation for instance.
