Octane vs. Arnold Glass Mat

Despite the topic I don’t wanna to decide which renderer is the best, I’m only looking for answers. Also I think both of them are fantastic renderers over all and of course in it’s own way too.

I made a quick comparison and the main focus was on glass material. Both scene are identical with the most simple glass and (HDRi) render setup.

But I didn’t understand what causes the significal differences. As I see from Octane side there is missing glossy reflections and again I dont’ know why. I hope so the experienced users of this forum can give me a reasonable explonation. Thanks.

Hi zsdani,
What are your kernel and specular material settings?
Could you share the c4d scene in order to compare the results?

Of course I can. Sorry the kernel I used was Path Tracing.

Here it is: http://1drv.ms/1QXCKL0

Change kernel from path tracing to PMC and increase both diffuse and glossy maxdepth to 20.

What's your videocard?

PS: If you deserve "nature" then any specular material has ALWAYS dispersion. ;)

I did it, here is my result. I think it's pretty much the same as before with the Path Tracing kernel.

Sorry for the noise. My gpu is an old GTX 460 OC with 1 GB ram.

Hi zsdani,
in c4dOctane, never load directly an HDR in the texture node:

but, always use an Imagetexture node before loading th HDR, in this way you have a better control on the Gamma and the illumination values are correctly transfered to Octane. Here is your scene with gamma at 1:

there is also a shortcut button that automatically loads the Imagetexture node ;)
