feature request: volumetric lighting

hi everyone, is it possible for this renderer to do volumetric lighting ?

Hi,
Volumetric lighting and SSS which is something that builds on the volumetrics feature will be available in the v2.0 version.
We would like to have a solid foundation with v1.0 first before we develop volumetrics...

Do you also plan to create some kind of sss aproximation material which would be very usefull for creating fast rendered foliage materials (thin geometry leafs), curtains materials etc. ?

You can use the diffuse material's transmission channel for this.
it's not connected by default, but if you hook up a diffuse material node and connect a RGBspectrum to it's 2nd pin (the circular one),
you can control the diffuse transmission, which gives a pseudo-sss like translucency usefull for cloth and leaves etc...

Tnx alot:) Very usefull feature to me. Glad it's already here:). I'm very big fan of nice looking foliage. Gonna do some foliage related tests now:) heheh

Here is result from simple test . I created plane and put some object in front of it. The plane has diffuse material set up as radiance suggested. Translucency effect is very subtle and I thik it would be a bit more pronounced if there was some direct source of light(sun for example:) )
This setup is ok for cloth and paper like materials, but what about leafs which need to be glossy? Can similar thing be done with a glossy material as well?

Sure. This time i used hdri with sunny sky(in first test was octane_studio1.hdr) and rotated it so that sun is in front of the plane. Pathtracing needs to be enabled.
