Unused materials slow down send to render.

Just a quick query I was unsure about.
I have a scene with a single object in it with one material applied. but i also have a number of native c4d textures in the scene but not applied to anything.
I find that sending the scene to octane takes considerably longer when these materials are present. If i delete them it sends much quicker.
Is there a way to keep unused materials in the scene without it impacting render update times?
