Hey Guys,

Whats the workflow to use Octane for 3dsmax plugin to render a VR, to use with Samsung's Gear VR?

is it at all possible? or is there a special version of octane (OctaneVR) that has to be used?

Octane VR is just a subset of Octane Render, so both will work just fine. We recommend you render an 18k stereo cube map. If you want to do this for animations, ORC will support this, as well as light field volume rendering at scale.

It's pretty simple & You don't need any tutorial for that =) if You have a scene already setup & You realise where You would like to put camera, simply choose Spherical one, set "side by side" in Stereo properties & set resolution to that huge 12:1 (don't remember exact measurements =) that's it. The rest is simple playing around to see how it looks =) few things to mention: avoid very close objects & make sure Your camera is horizontal (parallel to the ground). For preview, You can setup another node, with image proportion 2:1 & set not side by side, but that old, coloured way (don't remember how it is called) - this would unwrap field of view & You can check how strong is that 3d effect =)

hope that helps =)
